EOL: Maintenance Report 20060611
Just thought I’d kill some time this chilly Sunday morning with a bit of a maintenance report for EOL, so here goes:
I spent a bit of time tinkering about with the site yesterday and I’m happy to finally be able to say that all the CSS files used and the HTML finally pass ye’old W3 validation, I even managed to get that damn login box to render without spitting out any warnings. I’ve been trying to keep a close eye on how the site behaves in IE, Firefox and Safari, however if you come across an error (not related to the site’s backend code) then feel free to drop me a line.
Speaking of the login box and backend, I had a bit of a rummage around and I’ve managed to get the registrations working again (although the user page is still a bit wonky). I’m no php monkey, so until I can get one of the server guys to take a poke about that’s about as good as it’s going to get.
While working on all this stuff I came across a neat little OS X app by Scandalous Software called Cocoa Cookies. Like a lot of really useful (but overlooked) apps it had no icon, so after really getting to appreciate the app I slapped together this little number. Todd (Cocoa Cookies’ developer) informs me that he’ll be attempting to update the app soon and will be including the icon in that release.
And finally, not only does EOL now have a valid v2 RSS feed but there’s also a mobile version of the site. It was designed specifically for my A1000, but should work on any smart phone or PSP (I’ve not tried it on my PSP yet as I’m still running v1.5, but if you test it let me know!).
