Wonder Woman: 1 in the Hand
Until there’s actually an official announcement about the casting of Wonder Woman we’re going to have to contend with a million and one names being ‘associated’ with the part. From the very early stages there was talk that Joss Whedon would draw upon the bevy of talented female starlets that he’s previously worked with. Charisma Carpenter, Eliza Dushku, Morena Baccarin, and even Michelle Trachtenberg have been mentioned in connection with the role – None of them more so than Charisma Carpenter, who made it very clear that this was a role that she really wanted and actively campaigned for.
Once all the potentially applicable candidates from within Whedon’s stable had been considered – And I mean by the general public, more specifically, Whedon fan-boys (like myself) – a variety of names began to surface: Sandra Bullock, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Kate Beckinsale and a few other predictable ones, though, to be fair, Sandra Bullock has long been associated with the idea of a Wonder Woman film: Long before Joss for that matter. More recently the name most associated with the role of Wonder Woman has been former Miss World, Priyanka Chopra but, again, most believe that these rumours have little to no grounding what so ever and consider them little more than self promotion on the part of the Indian actress.
Despite having the kind of exotic looks that may very well work for an Amazonian Princess, Chopra now has some new (and not so exotic) competition when it comes to self promotion by association… and it’s in the form of the relatively unknown Sophia Bush.
IESB.net has published a ‘story’ which amounts to pretty much a “I’m not telling” response from the 24 year old, former One Tree Hill actress when, according to IESB’s Robert Sanchez, he posed the question “So have you auditioned or has anybody talk to you about Joss Whedon’s Wonder Woman?”
Based on Bush’s non committal and evasive replies I can’t say that there’s much of a story here, and to be fair, Sanchez says as much himself. In my mind, the real story here is that Sophia Bush is smart enough to know that by not completely dismissing Sanchez’s question she’d be able to get a bit more attention focused on her and her new film, a remake of the 1986 finger fest, The Hitcher.
