Stargate: Jacks Back
Possibly the only news better than hearing that Richard Dean Anderson would be reprising his role as MacGyver is the [actual] news that he will be returning to the screen as Major General Jack O’Neill in Stargate: Sg-1 and appearing in several episodes of Stargate: Atlantis.
Stargate: SG-1 has, as I’ve said before, done a remarkable job of surviving the coming and going of cast members during its 9 year run. Daniel (Michael Shanks) was actually dead for a season or so, however he was replaced for that time by Parker Lewis, so, the show couldn’t lose. General Hammond (Don S. Davis) also left his permanent role as head of Stargate Command for a job at the pentagon – His position was briefly filled by O’Neill before his departure and is now held by Maj. Gen. Hank Landry (Beau Bridges).
Anderson, who left the show over a year ago to spend more time with his daughter, will return for two episodes of SG-1 and make three additional appearances on the spin-off series: Stargate Atlantis. Anderson’s return was originally only intended to be for SG-1’s 200th episode, but when approached to appear in an additional four episodes the former General Hospital star didn’t hesitate to sign on.
Wylie [daughter] came to me one day and said, “You know, Dad, if you want to go back to work you can because I’m OK now. We’re good.” Anderson told TV Zone magazine. “I was like, ‘Are you sure?’ and she said, ‘Yes.’ My reply to that was, ‘Well, what about me? What if I miss you too much?’ That’s when she put her hand on my shoulder, looked me square in the eye and said, ‘Dad, you’ll be OK.’ She’s such a wise and sensitive soul for a seven-year-old.”
News of Jack O’Neill’s extended return to Stargate Command comes on the heals of the (also welcome) news that Morena Baccarin would also be joining the cast for several episodes this upcoming season. [source]
